Turkey: Watermelons from Adana are about to be trademarked

An application has been made to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Institution to trademark watermelons from Adana and to market them with special labels.

Adana, a city located in southern Turkey, is known for watermelon production in Turkey and watermelon from this area is well known for its taste.

Yuregir District Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Mehmet Akin Dogan: “Annually 800,000 tons of watermelon is grown in Adana, it is important to trademark the watermelon from this area and then use this in marketing. More than 20% of the watermelon production in Turkey comes from our city. This year we are expecting 880,000 tons of products from 1.3 billion square feet of production area.

When we get the watermelon trademarked, we will put “Adana Watermelon” labels on products from this region so it will be used to add value to the products from this area.”
