Zhengzhou: Durian price falls as temperature climbs

The price of durians in the Wanbang Market this week showed a downward trend. The main reasons for this development are as follows:

1. Supply volume increased. Durian is produced in Thailand. The peak season of durian on the Chinese market is every year between May and September. The early season has already begun. As temperatures gradually increase in production areas, such as the east and south of Thailand, the durians mature quicker, which increases the supply volume and decreases the price.

2. Difficult storage. Durian will go bad in 2-3 days. They are not easy to store, so they require swift retail.

3. Competition is great. Many seasonal fruits enter the market in May, for example pineapple, dragon fruit, watermelon, and peaches. The variety is great and therefore the prices are relatively low. This puts further pressure on the price of durians. The current supply volume of durians is around 150 tons per day. In the current market, it takes 2-3 days to sell one truckload of durian. Under ideal conditions it takes one day per truckload.

The main reason for the durian price increase is the gradual increase of temperatures in durian production areas. The increased volume floods the market, and since the fruit is difficult to store, traders need to offload them as quickly as possible.
