Sébastien Morlet, Georges Helfer:

France: “Peruvian mango volumes much higher than expected”

“Things are getting complicated on the French mango market”, says Sébastien Morlet from Georges Helfer. “The volumes from Peru are much, much higher than expected and there are lots of mangoes available. This makes it difficult for Côte d’Ivoire to enter the market. The so-called ‘old’ volumes from Peru need to be sold first. A lot of players on the avocado market are getting nervous too, because the Peruvian volumes of this product also seem to be quite high. The market is declining already.”

“Two weeks ago, lime prices doubled within five days. The consumption is still high.” The sweet potato market, on the contrary, is slowing down. Consumption is decreasing, but this is normal for this time of the year so this is nothing to be worried about.”

Sébastien also draws attention to some new arrivals on the market. “This week the Zespri kiwis from New Zealand will enter the market and the first volumes of Argentinian lemons are on their way to Western Europe. Besides, the market is more and more orientated towards the South African production. This week the first grapefruits from South Africa will arrive. They are very popular in France.”
