China: Extended production period of Chilean blueberries influences Qingdao blueberry market prices

"Under regular weather conditions, Qingdao blueberries enter the market around the last week of March, and supply lasts until the last week of July. This year, the surface area devoted to domestic blueberry plantation increased and the production season of Chilean blueberries was extended. As a result, the price of blueberries in the Qingdao market decreased in comparison with last year. As for production volume, our company has a smaller production volume this year because we devoted 133 hectares of plantation to the nursery stock that will renew and optimize our product variety." This is according to Zou Haibo of Qingdao Longhui Agricultural Development Co., Ltd.

"We own 400 hectares of blueberry plantation in Huangdao District, Qingdao. We produce blueberries under our own registered brands 'Secret Code', 'Open Eyes', and 'Excellent Adoration'. We sell blueberries in wholesale markets and supermarkets in first and second tier cities in Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong, Zhejiang, Zhengzhou, and Jiangsu. Apart from traditional marketing channels, we also work closely together with fruit chain stores such as Pagoda and large-scale e-commerce platforms such as JD, as well as WeChat traders."
