Macfruit Innovation Awards

Macfrut and Informatore Agrario analysed 33 new products and assigned 9 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 4 bronze medals as part of the Innovation Awards. Below are the 9 gold medal winners.

The Annatura range includes fresh, processed and ready-to-eat products such as pulses and organic vegetables. Packaging in protected atmosphere and punnets mean the produce can reach a shelf-life of 30 days without preservatives and additional treatments.

Zeropack from Cesena was rewarded for C3 Plus, an electronic grader that can sort fruit according to weight, colour and diameter. It's particularly suitable for delicate fruit such as pears, persimmons, nashis and apples. The machine is loaded manually and settings are selected on a PC. An LED tells operators which products can be taken and placed in boxes. The machine comes with a PC and a 0.75 kW motor. The basic version is 12 metres long with 10 work stations.

The Feedentity system is a data sharing platform that has the objective of providing operators with a series of services to share information in a simple intuitive way. Data can be shared on the same level rather than vertically.

DAI Global, an international company from the US, supports the development of agriculture by working with producers, processers, traders and exporters to build networks and increase technical skills via the exchange of data. The project started off with printed manuals and is now an app. In addition, videos are available for free on the social media and other platforms.

SoFruMiniPak Premium cardboard crates (by the Polish Sofrupak) are available in the 125, 250 and 500 gr formats and fully comply with the current European ecological trends. The products are functional, appealing, ecological and capable of catching the attention of consumers. The SoFruMini-Pak Premium range includes a clear plastic lid and is perfect for chains. The strategically-placed slits are perfect to ventilate the produce and preserve its quality.

THe Grow Unit from Cefla is an indoor micro-vegetable growing system that includes an irrigation and lighting device. It has the following benefits: natural controlled growth, as the micro-vegetables grow all year round thanks to the C-LED lighting; ease of use, as the pre-sowed trays are placed inside the unit with a closed-cycle circuit (lighting and irrigation are automatic while the ventilation system guarantees controlled temperature and humidity levels); sustainability, as water and electric consumption are reduced and CO2 emissions are lower than standard cultivation and transport.

Slide Valeriana Eco by Hortech is an electrical machine to harvest lamb's lettuce. It's equipped with an automatic system to load and unload the produce managed via a Hortech PLC and microprocessor. It also has three-phase induction motors and 450 Ah 48 V batteries lasting up to 16 hours with integrated charger. The belt is placed above the rack to better handle the product. Electric 75° steering.

Forigo Roter Italia was rewarded for Modula, an electrical sower that can sow through mulching films. Piercing elements receive the seeds from the distributor and sow them. They can be removed to increase/decrease quantities. The distributor automatically synchronises with the piercing elements and is made up of a rotor with inserts that can be replaced to adapt to various crops. All movements are electrical, so the sower does not depend on mechanical transmissions. The sowing modules are connected to a main frame and interact via a CAN-BUS protocol.

Saent is a medium-grade asparagus variety with green-purple shoots resistant to withering and closed apexes. The colour and flavour are just as unique as its rusticity, which also means the variety is very tolerant to fungal diseases and adaptable to climatic stress.
