Tolsma sells fully automatic potato line during trade mission to China

The recent trade mission to China was a success for the Dutch agrofood sector. This is the conclusion drawn from follow up calls among participants in the trip (8-13 April). During the mission new contacts were made and agreements formed on trade amongst themselves.

Previously, the ministry of LNV announced that Dutch companies closed almost 200 million Euro worth of collaboration agreements during the mission. Important trade agreements were made in the areas of baby food, cultivation under glass, poultry, storage and processing of potatoes, breeding and agricultural research.

Erwin van den Berg of Tolsma-Grisnich (storage, processing and packaging agrarian products) speaks of a successful mission. This company from Emmeloord has been active in China for over 25 years and has its own location there. "The visit was useful," says Van den Berg. "We spoke to existing customers and make a number of new agreements."

In the presence of minister-president Rutte, Tolsma-Grisnich signed a contract with a Chinese company for the supply of a fully automatic line for receiving, washing, sorting and packaging potatoes. The installation can process 30 tonnes of potatoes per hour.

According to Van den Berg China offers huge sales opportunities for Dutch companies that are active in the potato chain. "China is the largest potato producing country in the world by far. The Chinese government wants to raise the production considerably. With a trade mission like this Dutch companies are given the opportunity to put themselves in the spotlight. The presence of ministers is a positive influence."
