The EverCrisp apple takes on the Big Apple

With availability of the MAIA-1 apple variety – marketed as EverCrisp® – expected to increase significantly this season, Midwest Apple Improvement Association visited with New York City media earlier this month to give national media a taste of the new apple they say everyone will be talking about this fall.

Bill Dodd, owner of Hillcrest Orchards in Amherst, Ohio and MAIA president, hand delivered baskets of EverCrisp® to ten national media publications in New York City to share samples of this tasty, new apple. Media visits included Good Housekeeping, Rachael Ray Every Day, The Food Network, Self and Saveur, among others.

“EverCrisp®, a cross between Honeycrisp and Fuji, combines the best of its parents to create a sweet, juicy, crunchy and firm apple with long storability,” said Dodd. “Everyone who has tasted EverCrisp® has become a fan. We are anticipating our harvest to quadruple in 2018 over the prior year, ensuring much wider availability. We wanted to tee up anticipation for the season by making new fans out of media who will be covering apple season. We are excited at their reactions and look forward to the buzz we expect these tastings will create for EverCrisp® come fall.”
