For apples, it's the end of the French season. “There’ll still be apples in a month to a month and a half, after that we will finish”, says Christophe Ochs of the French shipper-producer Albafruit. "The demand is still very good."
"We offer French apples all year long. Currently, the most available variety we have is the Royal Gala, and then there are varieties such as the Granny, Jazz, Pink Lady, and the Envy, which is a very good apple. We have no preference for conventional varieties or trademarks. We all work with what our producers produce."
Christophe says it's still too early to say how the next campaign will go. ”We’re in the blossoming period. I don’t know whether we’ll have a big production or not, but we haven’t had any frost recently. We’ll certainly have a good harvest although, based on what we see in the orchards right now, I don’t think it’s going to be phenomenal.”
The European market is the most important market for Albafruit. Christophe: "We also export large quantities to middle East and Asia, and the French market of course.
Albafruit also offers Charentais melons and Grapes “Apart from selling French melons, we produce melons in cooperation with Morocco as well. Our Moroccan production is focused on the region of Marrakech, which faces a delay this year due to the spring cold. Melon production won’t start until the end of this week." The Grapes are mostly White Seedless, and the Moroccan season lasts from the end of May till mid-July.
