The fresh produce sector is growing in Uganda. "Countries like Uganda consider Italy a supplier of field and post-harvest technologies. But there's room for packaging solutions as well," explains Macfrut President Renzo Piraccini.
Apple and kiwi imports from Europe, South Africa and New Zealand are increasing (even though volumes are low and destined to those with a higher income).
Among the companies attending the fair, there's Equator Organic Coffee, which produces tomatoes, lettuce, cauliflowers, potatoes, dried fruit, tropical fruit, melons, watermelons, apples, peaches, soft fruit, pineapples, grapes, citrus fruit, avocados and bananas, to name few. It grows around 20 thousand tons of produce every year, destined to both the domestic and foreign markets.
The company explains that "at Macfrut, we will be looking for new partners and, at the same time, browse technologies to improve our efficiency and quality."

Blue Nile will also attend the fair. It was established in 2001 and has grown a lot over the years. It uses aromatic herbs to produce lemon grass oil, rosemary oil, papaya oil, avocado soap etc. It also imports fruit like mangoes, oranges, pineapples, avocados and pears as well as many vegetables.
The area in which these companies are located is also known as Switzerland of Uganda.
