Peru: Apple exports are booming

In 2017, Peru imported a total of 57.9 million kilos of apples for a CIF value of US $45 million. Imports increased moderately when compared to the almost 52 million kilos imported for US$39 million in 2016. This year the numbers are still important.

According to the Agrodata Peru website, during the first quarter of 2018, Peru imported 8,042,756 kilos of apples for US $7,076,740. The fruit was imported from two markets: Chile, with US $4,287,106, and the United States, with US $2,770,391.

The main buyers (in the first quarter of this year), were Honey Fruit Import & Export, which accounted for 10% of total acquisitions, Cencosud Retail Peru SA and WSW SA with 9% each; Peque EIRL and Oregon Foods with 6% each; Memflo Hermanos SAC with 5%, Import and Export Melfrut EIRL with 4%, and the remaining 50% was distributed among several smaller buyers.
