Peru: Casma will export its mangoes under the Puquymi brand

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) gave to the Casma Farmers' Association the Puquymi collective brand, which will allow them to enter and compete in the most demanding international markets.

Puquymi is a Quechua word that means February's sweet ripe fruit.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roger Valencia, said this brand had been developed with the support of the Vice Ministry of Foreign Trade after identifying the need to generate a distinctive sign to strengthen the positioning and exports of the mango from Casma.

"Thanks to this initiative, 89 producers will be able to export mango under their own duly registered brand, positioning the quality and origin of this fruit in the international market," said the minister.

The minister said that the Casma Valley had approximately 1,700 hectares and around 300 producers dedicated to the production of Kent mangoes. This variety is harvested last due to climatic reasons, which grants it a differentiated commercial window in the United States.

Ancash is one of the regions that produces this mango variety, which has a higher concentration of soluble solids in the pulp than other varieties, in Peru.

Minister Roger Valencia said that the next challenge was to position this brand in the international market, with the goal of complying with the objectives set in the National Strategic Export Plan (PENX 2025).
