"We want to increase our role as a link to get the highest possible returns for our members"

René Oudijk and Hans Prins are Van Nature's new directors

Since 1 January, Van Nature has had a new management team. Hans Prins and René Oudijk are responsible for the day-to-day running of the business at this Dutch growers association. Now as directors, but both with years of experience at Van Nature. Where will their focus lie in 2018? In the magazine, Meer, they discuss their plans.

"Improving mutual communication and increasing Van Nature's recognisability. These are a few of the topics that we have reached agreements on with members of the chain", begins Hans Prins. He is exchanging his role as Financial Manager for that of Finance Director. "We want to expand our role as a connector further. In this way, we want to continue to achieve the highest possible returns for our members", adds René. René Oudijk used to be the Commerce Team Leader. He is now the Commerical Director.

Mutual communication
"Improving mutual communication at the administrative level is essential. This must be done in the pyramid of management, the directors, and trade partners. This is how more involvement and connectedness is created", René and Hans explain. To this end, the management model was one of the things that were adjusted. Now representatives of all the partners in the chain have a place here. "Another example is the joint communication campaign that has been started. This has been done with our trade partners. In this way, the Van Nature chain will become better positioned", says René.

New projects
Van Nature has been doing product and concept development for years. "We are going take a more intensive approach with the chain partners. We opted for a project-based approach with participants from the cultivation side as well as trade partners", says René. "In this way, it is a collective project from the start. This increases the chance of success." Van Nature will play the role of the connector during this process. This will ensure that everyone is moving in the same direction.

Certification
The new managers are also planning on formulating policy regarding certification this year. Activities have shifted to growers. This has resulted in an increase in the number of certifications needed to meet the current and future retail demands. "We want to combine all the knowledge and expertise available in the chain. From there we want to formulate policy. We want to achieve this by setting up a project team", says René
