Honduras: Agricultural exports to the US amounted to $995 million in 2017

Honduran agricultural exports to the United States in 2017 amounted to 955 million dollars, i.e. some 22.633 billion lempiras at the current exchange rate.

Ana Gomez, an agricultural specialist at the Embassy of the United States, stated that these exports had increased by 7 percent over 2016.

"I think that this growth trend will continue this year, last year it increased by that same percentage," Gomez added while announcing new training for Honduran companies.

"The truth is that Honduran agricultural exports to the United States have been very successful for the past five year," she said.

In 2013, Honduras agricultural exports to the US amounted to 773 million dollars (L18,320 million) and in 2017 they amounted to 955 millions, i.e. 23% more.

"Honduran exporters and the government, through the National Agricultural Health Service (Senana), have carried out training programs so that the products comply with the all the export requirements," she said.

"Among producers, the effect is multiplying, it benefits all of the national activity," she added.

"Apart from coffee, some of the main export products to the east of the United States, which have displaced exports of the Dominican Republic are oriental vegetables and fruits, such as melon and watermelon," Ana Gomez said.
