Germany: Current apple stocks in South Tyrol

According to surveys by Assomela and the Chamber of Commerce, 415,060 tonnes of table fruits were stored in the cooperatives in the region, as of 1 March. At the same time in 2017, it was 777,468 tonnes, compared to 762,047 tonnes in 2016. Slightly less than half of the lots in stock are Golden Delicious apples (193,153 tonnes). Other varieties include Granny Smith (47,990 tonnes), Red Delicious (46,866 tonnes) and Fuji (31,097 tonnes).

Around half of the apples currently stored in the cooperatives are of the Golden Delicious variety.

Due to the greatly reduced harvest of 2017, the stocks of these varieties are far below the quantities of the previous year on the same date. Of the Golden Delicious variety, less than half of the apples are stored than in the previous year at the same time. Only the Granny Smith variety is slightly higher than on last year's February 1st count.

The trend of the market in the course of each month is interesting as well: It shows which apple varieties were sold the most in the previous month. The graph below shows that around 118,100 tonnes of apples were sold in February, of which the Golden Delicious variety accounted for the largest share at around 42,300 tonnes (about 35.8%), followed by the Gala variety at around 17,400 tonnes (approx 14.8 percent).
