Virgin Trains bizarre avocado offer
As of Tuesday, travellers between the ages of 26 and 30 are able to buy a 'Millennial Railcard', cutting 33 percent off their train fares. However, of the five million Brits that are eligible for the card, only 10,000 cards were made available to the public.
To make up for the shortfall, Virgin Trains revealed all eligible passengers could get the same discount by presenting an avocado when booking.
Standard.co.uk reports how a statement on the rail firm's website reads:
"Did you miss out on the chance to get your hands on the 26-30 railcard? Fear not! After such high demand, we wanted to make sure that the 'Millennial Railcard' was available to anyone who wanted it. Introducing the #avocard, our very own temporary railcard."
A Virgin Trains spokesperson told the Standard: "We want to help any of our customers who missed out on the millennial railcard - so we decided to offer them the same discounted fares in a light-hearted way."
