Sri Lanka to invest in storage facilities to tighten food security
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe recently stressed the need to save the nation’s agriculture sector which has been suffering due to climatic changes. He assured that the country's food security would be maintained despite adverse conditions.
According to the Daily Mirror, the World Bank had warned Sri Lanka of the serious consequences of climate change. Climate change could express itself primarily in the water cycle, with consequences across the globe. And all water related problems cascade down through food, energy, urban, and environmental systems.
Setbacks in the agricultural industry will definitely take a toll on economic growth as a whole. The PM is talking to international agencies, agricultural specialists, farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector to decide on how to safeguard the industry and the economy as a whole.
