The machine presented by the Lesepidado, company specialising in printing on food products, raised a lot of interest among the new products on display at Futurpera. The idea is to impress a logo or writing on a piece of fruit or vegetable using edible ink.

"This system can replace traditional stickers in a cost-effective way. Printing can be carried out also on uneven surfaces thanks to soft silicone tampons. We printed on some pears at the fair, but the possibilities are endless," explains Bianca Rosa Dondarini.

The machine can be included in processing lines as a series of multiple machines to keep up with packagers. The image can be changed quickly at a very low price.
Printing with edible food ink
"The ink is edible, so it can be eaten with the peel. Over the next few weeks, we will present a new ink of natural origin that can be certified as organic as well."
Another company at the fair strongly connected to the organic sector is Lodi Imballaggi ortofrutticoli, which produces wooden crates. What is unique about it is the fact that it is a closed-cycle business, meaning it has its own poplar woods generating the wood for the crates.

"Wood is the best element to package fresh produce, although retailers don't always agree. Organic products are almost always placed in wood though, as it conveys the idea of something natural. Generally around 200 crates can be obtained from each tree. We also have a platform for the disposal of used packaging - the wood is sent to paper factories or used to make chipboard panels."
