About 200,000 Bulgarians work in the agricultural sector

Nearly 7% of the working population in Bulgaria have been employed in the agricultural sector during the last year, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) for 2016.

Bulgaria is in one of the leading positions in the European rankings, which is topped by Romania, where 26 percent of workers were employed in agriculture and/or the agricultural sector last year.

The EU average is around 5%. The countries with the lowest number of workers in the sector are the UK and Luxembourg, where only about 1% of the total working population is involved in agriculture, according to statistics.

In Bulgaria, out of a total working population of slightly over 3 million, about 203 thousand are involved in the sector in one way or another.
