This trade fair dedicated to pears will take place in Ferrara from 16th to 18th November. It's the second edition, following the 2015 show, which was very successful. Exhibitors numbers have increased and are now at 120 - foreign buyers are also more numerous. "FuturPera 2017 will be the perfect chance to make contacts and establish relationships on an international level thanks to buyers from potential importer countries. They're coming to find out more about the products and export companies," report the organisers.
The 2015 edition
There will be buyers from extra-EU countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Dubai, as well as from Germany (one of the main European markets for pears) and Spain; representing some of the leading retail chains (Danube Company, Edeka Frucht Su and Gulfmart) and import-export companies (Francaise Food Co., Don Limon, Global Fruit Point, Savasan Fresh, Group Iberica, Banana Trading and Adel&Sadiq Trade Company).
During the official presentation that took place two days ago, OI Pera President Gianni Amidei explained that the inter-branch organisation was established in 2012 to support producers at a time when consumption was dropping while it was increasing in countries like Spain. "We have been recognised by the European Union in 2014. Our 28 partners are doing all they can to promote such a remarkable production heritage."

"We establish harvesting rules, deal with production problems and monitor quantities. We set up important initiatives to present pears in the US and are working to improve shelf-life. This is because pears must reach the market when they are perfectly ripe so they can be appreciated by consumers. Futurpera plays an important part, as it enables the sector to improve from a production and commercial point of view thanks to the comparison with European competitors."
At the fair, visitors (8,000 in 2015) will find specialised exhibitors with the latest innovations ranging from nursery gardening to varietal innovation. There will also be fertilising, biostimulant and crop protection solutions with an eye to environmental sustainability.
The halls will also be home to a wide selection of machinery for orchard management, harvesting, post-harvesting processing, packaging and logistics as well as the main producer organisations and businesses that commercialise the fruit and promote pear consumption worldwide.
