Brazil: Rainy weather in the South/South East area
This rainfall, which fell in several regions, had its effect on different products. In the case of grapes, it hinders the final harvest of some producers. “Volumes already reduced last week. In addition, the rainfall of this week may result in not being able to harvest for a few days. If rainfall occurs during the night, problems should be minimized.” HF Brasil says producers don’t expect significant problems as the harvested volumes have decreased already. Fresh oranges were affected in such a way that harvest was interrupted. Less supply was registered on the local market, which pushed prices up a little.
Domestic market changing
The fruit trade in the domestic market is changing according to HF Brasil. The rainy weather conditions in the South and Southeast, in combination with the restricted marketing for melons negatively affect the quotation for melons. The prices of apple varieties Fuji and Gala were stable in Fraiburgo (SC). Producers decided to keep prices in line with the declining market, due to the low purchasing power of consumers. For now they avoided stock, however this is changing which can result in falling prices soon.
Moreover, it’s said that there is some sales of early plums and early peaches in the domestic market. This is competition for apples, but as well for mango. Last week, according to HF Brasil, the price of mango fell even though there was less supply of the varieties Tommy and Palmer. Export wasn’t the reason for the drop in prices neither, as export to the United States and Europe have been positive. It’s probably the alternatives of fruit caused it, as this is known to happen in the month November.
