Enough Royal Gala for Polish producer
"We had a good pepper season this year, with a lot of demand from NW Europe. We did notice that there were a few packaging issues in some of our shipments and we are going to look into this to avoid any damages next year. Pointed and chilli peppers also continue to gain popularity on the Polish market. When it comes to export we are primarily sending out green peppers, with the prices being a bit lower this season than we expected, along with some red and very small volumes of yellow," said Andrzej.
Demand has also increased in Poland for pointed and Palermo peppers, with small volumes being sent out for export.
Over the next month or so, the season will also start for products such as cauliflower, broccoli, romanesco and chinese cabbage, however, these products are primarily for the domestic market. Andrzej said that the lower prices for these products, and a lot of supply from various producing countries, means that it is not really viable export when you include transport costs etc.
The apple season is looking positive for the Polish producer.
"We will continue our apple exports to Cyprus and Greece again this season, but we have also starting exporting to a customer in France, who had only taken our peppers and aubergines in the past and they recently approached us about our Royal Gala. We are feeling really positive about this new venture.
"The French market has strict requirements about colouration, good calibre (between 70-85 mm) and we have received some positive feedback about our first shipments," shared Andrzej.
There had been some reports about a possible supply shortage for apples around Jan/Feb., but Andrzeij said that he doesn't think that this will be a problem for the Royal Gala variety, which is preferred by France.
"We should have enough volumes of Gala to fill demand from our customers, but I think that we might have some issues later on in the season for varieties like Idaread, Jonagold and Prince."
Currently in a closed chamber, Cool Fruit will start selling their decorative Christmas apples from the first of December.
