China: Peak season for exports of organic ginger
"The production and sales time for organic ginger is the same as that of normal ginger. Compared to normal ginger, however, the use of chemicals and fertilizer in the production process of organic ginger is much more strict. Because of personal health and food safety, organic ginger is becoming more and more popular," according to Ms. Kaylee Liu of Weifang Everfresh Agriculture Co., Ltd.
Freshly harvested organic ginger
"The price for organic ginger is around 40%-50% higher than that of normal ginger. The sales of old ginger end around the end of November, after which the sales of new ginger starts in December. Generally, winter is the peak season for ginger exports. The slow season starts in April. The current export price for organic garlic is higher than last year, so the number of export orders has also dropped."
High quality organic ginger
"In Anwei County in Weifang we own around 3 hectares (30 mu) of organic ginger fields. Our fields have already obtained several qualifications, such as the international GAP, EOS, NOP and Eurofins. Currently, we mainly export our high quality organic ginger under our brand 'Everfresh' through the port of Qingdao to the Northern European market, such as Denmark."
Packaged organic ginger for export
"I am very optimistic about the prospects for our organic ginger export. Firstly, our company is located in Anwei, also called the 'home of garlic'. We can offer a large supply, and can guarantee our product quality. Furthermore, we have already established a good relationship with foreign customers, based on mutual trust, which makes the purchasing process go relatively smoothly. In the future, while we are developing our Northern European markets, with Denmark at the center, we are also hoping to join hands with foreign customers from other regions, so that we can bring our high quality ginger to even more consumers."
