“Joining AGRO Merchants Group was the highlight”

Javier Rueda says farewell to logistics sector after 45 years

During the Fruit Attraction, Javier Rueda, manager of AGRO Merchants Algeciras, said farewell to the logistics sector at a well-attended reception. The manager of Spanish cold store Algeciras will retire at the end of the year. Many colleagues, customers, and ‘competitors’ therefore used the occasion to shake the hand of this logistics veteran (65).

Javier Rueda and his daughter, who also works for the company.

During his 45 year long career, Javier has always been active in shipping. In 2013, Gestion Frio Algeciras (GFA) was taken over by the AGRO Merchants Group, and last year, a considerable expansion of 13,827 pallet spaces was realised in the cold store. The name was then also changed to AGRO Merchants Algeciras. The departing manager says the Spanish port is a great location to offer customers logistical opportunities for overseas, conditioned food flows.

As a highlight of his career, Javier mentions joining the AGRO Merchants Group. Hans Kroes, Managing Director AGRO Merchants Iberia, emphasises the added value Javier brought to the growth and success of AGRO Merchants in Spain. He is confidently facing the future. “The base laid by Javier in Algeciras is strong, and it’s a perfect platform to continue building our organisation on,” he says. AGRO Merchants Group experienced a significant expansion in recent years, and currently consists of 61 companies in 11 different countries in Europe, North and South America and Australia. The Dutch companies ADB Cool Company and Opticool also joined AGRO Merchants Group in recent years.
