Strong growth of Chinese fruit and veg exports to Russia via Heihe port
As of last September, 57,500 tonnes of fruits and vegetables had been exported from China to Russia via the port; up 39.56% compared to a year earlier.
Potatoes, onions and turnips were the most popular vegetables, while apples, oranges and grapes were in the top three of the most exported fruits to Russia.
Heilongjiang Province, in north east China, is a major source of fruits and vegetables intended for Russia. The winter is long and the local production is insufficient to meet the demand.
The appreciation of the rouble and the rising popularity of Chinese products have led to an increase in exports, according to the staff of the inspection office and the provincial quarantine office.
The port of Heihe is an important port in Heilongjiang and only 100 metres away from Blagojevishinsk, the capital of Russia's Far East region of Amur.
