Ukraine: Gradual decline in fruit prices expected from November
The strongest decline in prices, primarily affecting the most popular products (mandarins, oranges and bananas) will be recorded in the second half of December. This is something that happens every year, according to experts.
However, for less popular fruits, such as pineapples, avocados or figs, consumers should not expect big discounts, even before the New Year. Analysts believe that 5-7% will be the maximum.
As previously reported, the continuation of the trade war between Turkey and Russia will lead to a drop of citrus fruit prices in Ukraine, according to a forecast from Alexey Doroshenko, agrarian expert and general director of the Ukrainian association of suppliers of trading networks.
He recalled that over the past two years, Russia and Turkey have already been involved in trade wars from which Ukraine has benefitted with increased exports and consumers being able to buy inexpensive fruits and vegetables.
"Now the parties accuse each other of imposing additional administrative barriers, and we are waiting to see what happens. If the escalation of tensions turns into another conflict, then in October we will be able to buy citrus fruits 10-15% cheaper than now. And in the regions bordering on Russia, the discounts could be even more significant due to the fact that the load of the trucks failing to enter the Russian Federation will be 'sold off' on the spot," Doroshenko wrote on his Facebook page.
