"Argentina: "It is important to be in contact with our customers"

The preferences of the different markets can affect the way supermarket chains and big stores acquire products. The packaging, the presentation of the product and its preparation are details that producers pay attention to. "We found it very important to go out, visit different exhibitions and see with our own eyes what the different markets demanded," stated Diego Quijano, director of Compañía Argentina de Frutas. These details may be the key to closing contracts or agreements with different distributors. "We had been placing our blueberry production in the hands of third parties for years, however, we only managed to add value to our product once we ourselves started to be in charge of this step," he said.

This Argentine company has managed to increase its production of blueberries to about 300 tons per season. "Even though we are now present in many countries like the United States, Holland, Ireland, England, Italy, Belgium, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore, Malaysia or Hong Kong, our idea is to settle in the Middle East and Asia. In addition, we would like to be able to achieve having as many agreements as Peru has achieved, as they are the leading blueberry producers and the example we must follow," he added.
