No damage to fresh produce

Mexico struck by another 7.1 magnitude earthquake

Another earthquake struck Mexico on Tuesday afternoon with a 7.1 magnitude at a depth of approximately 50 kilometers. The epicenter was about 5 km from Raboso, Puebla. This is about 100 miles away, which means approximately 160 kilometers from Mexico city. It caused heavy and prolonged shaking in the capital of Mexico. There are no big production zones of fresh produce in the affected areas.

According to our sources, located in Queretaro 400 km away from the epicenter, they could still feel the earthquake even from that distance. However, there is no damage in that region. It has been said that there is a national fear, due to the timing of this latest earthquake as it happened on the exact day of the disasterous earthquake of 32 years ago. Mexico city is down today, which means no school, not many people are working but the focus is to clean up the mess and help other people.

Below you see a graph published by CNN based on the information of the US Geological Survey, with the intensity of this earthquake.

Over 40 buildings have collapsed in Mexico City alone and official numbers say that over 200 people have died. Press reports that the president Enrique Peña Nieto said Mexico is facing a new national emergency. Over 4 million people have been left with no electricity.

This latest earthquake struck Mexico exactly 32 years after the major disaster earthquake in 1985, which caused the death of over 10.000 people. A little over a week ago Mexico was struck by a 8.1 magnitude earthquake that killed over 90 people and destroyed thousands of homes and buildings. While still recovering, Mexico has been hit again.
