Polish consumers increasingly eager to buy local produce
Why do Polish consumers increasingly prefer regional and traditional foods? The most important reason is their taste, as well as the health aspects and the desire to support the Polish economy. Poles mostly buy regional and traditional products from the fruits and vegetables and bakery products categories, according to an ARC study.
Poles seek information on regional and traditional products mainly among friends, and they also rely on their own experiences. Many consumers also read promotional brochures and product labels, while 1/4 of respondents look for information on the net.
In the aforementioned ARC survey, 65% of respondents stated that the main reason why they buy traditional and regional foods is their taste. In turn, 51% wants to support the Polish economy, 49 percent wants to be sure that "I know what I eat", and 48% believes that these foods are healthier.
The ARC analysis shows that when a consumer decides to buy traditional or regional foods, the price of the product is not relevant. What matters most is the quality, the natural look of the food, the composition (with an emphasis on the use of natural ingredients and the lack of preservatives), the origin of the product, the packaging and the certificates that the product may have.
Nearly three-quarters of consumers plan the purchase of traditional and regional products in advance, but quite a large group, 28 percent, make impulse buys after entering the store.
