Unitec, an international group that specialises in designing and developing technologies for the processing, sorting, quality selection and packing of more than 35 types of fresh fruit and vegetables, took part in the first day of Asiafruit Business Forum with an intervention by Luca Montanari, Vice-President of the Group.
"Two emblematic cases that we mentioned at the Asiafruit Business Forum fill our team with pride for the work done with our clients," says Luca Montanari.
The first collaboration involves cherries, the Chinese market and Hernán Garcés, president of the Chilean company San Francisco Lo Garcés. In China, the appreciation for cherries is so strong that consumers are willing to spend more for higher quality, and exclusivity plays a very important role.
This demand for quality led to Garcés introducing Cherry Vision Unitec Technology into its Chilean warehouses. Since then, San Francisco Lo Garcés has become a key player in the Chilean market and now cherry exports reach volumes of 13,210 tons a year.
According to Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, in a list of top 5 cherry Chilean exporters, five use Unitec technology. These include San Francisco Lo Garcés, Frusan, Copefrut, Prize and Rio King.
Frusan is a second case the company believes is an example of the power of the technology. Manuel Kaulen, General Director of Frusan, commented on the introduction and advantages of Unitec technologies in fruit processing: "Compared to cherries, it is maybe even more difficult to detect external defects and bruises on blueberries."
"Unitec Blueberry Vision is able to detect the small bruises that you can find on blueberries. The use of this technology also makes it possible to use less labor in the packing process."
Chinese market managers report that consumers, thanks to the consistent quality of Frusan blueberries, appreciate the brand and the quality it guarantees.
