As part of the market diversification strategy promoted by the federal government through the Ministry of Agriculture, China's health authorities will visit Jalisco's vegetable gardens in order to acquire Mexican avocados.
This was agreed by the head of the National Service of Health, Safety and Agro-Food Quality (Senasica), Enrique Sánchez Cruz, and the inspector-in-chief of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ), Zhan Jiwen.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) said that this action makes part of one of the first achievements of that Asian country's tour in order to consolidate the sanitary steps for the approval of several protocols.
This will allow Mexico to expand their share of agricultural products in China. It is one of the most important ones because of the consumption potential of its population, and the growth of its economy.
He explained that AQSIQ technicians will visit in September packing plants and orchards in order to verify avocado production and packaging conditions in Jalisco.
It was also agreed that a working group to be integrated to initiate the organic production analysis and certification schemes of the two countries, as well as having technicians exchange verification visits to achieve a mutual recognition scheme as soon as possible.
Both officials agreed that this agreement will facilitate and intensify the safe trade of organic products between the two countries, by promoting a reliable scheme that provides guarantees to consumers of this type of products from Mexico and China.
Sánchez Cruz said that the meeting also analyzed the health protocols so that Mexico can export banana, pork products and Mexican equine meat to that Asian nation.
He mentioned that electronic certification is a tool of great importance in the commercial exchange of agrifood products, as it mitigates the risk of making mistakes and the possibility of presenting false certificates.
So he proposed the Chinese authority to initiate a process for the electronic exchange of certificates between the health authorities of the two countries, Sagarpa said.
