Peruvian agro-exports to Indonesia grow 261%

The Indonesian economy grows year by year and this trend is also seen in the Peruvian agro-exports (traditional and non-traditional) it acquires. This is why in the first half of the year they totalled US $ 9,381,000, achieving a growth of 261%, the Association of Exporters (Adex) reported.

According to figures from the Adex Data Trade Intelligence System, the agricultural-agroindustrial subsector accounts for 52.4% of total shipments to that destination.

The main items were grapes and cacao, followed by beverages, citrus juices, Andean grains such as quinoa and chia, also pomegranate and canned tomatoes.

The Director of the Peruvian Commercial Office in Indonesia (OCEX Jakarta), Juan Carlos Valdivia, detailed that although there is currently no Peru-Indonesia trade agreement, business opportunities are diverse.

"In fresh fruits, for example, we have a great advantage because of a coastal climate that we must take advantage of. That makes us more competitive," he said.

At the Adex food conference in Indonesia, Valdivia said that Peru could ship fresh and processed products, chocolate and other hydrobiological products to the Asian market, as well as ladies accessories, handicrafts, leather sandals and mining machinery.

Valdivia commented on the main platform for the food sector in Indonesia: the SIAL Interfood fair, to be held in Jakarta from November 22 to 25 to promote agricultural food in all its presentations and fishery products. The participation of the entrepreneurs will be in the 'Peru Pavilion', which will not only be in the SIAL Interfood 2017 fair, but also in FHC China.

Both trips are part of the 'Asia 2017 Mission', developed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and Adex, which allows Peruvian exporters to display their offer and contact potential customers from that part of the world.

According to Adex, in 2016 Peruvian shipments from the agricultural sector to that destination totalled about US $ 13,827,000.

Sociedad Agrícola Rapel SAC, Agrícola Challapampa SAC, El Pedregal SA and Sumaqao SAC and Agrícola Las Marías SAC were the main exporting companies.
