Growth of imports from third markets in first semester

Spain imports 33% more Moroccan fruit and veg

Fresh fruit and vegetable imports from third countries in the first half of this year were worth € 859 million, representing 63.45% of a total of € 1,354 million.

In the group of third countries exporting to Spain, it is worth noting the growth of Moroccan imports, with 404 million Euro (+33%). According to the analysis of FEPEX, the country has consolidated as Spain's most important supplier, maintaining a high growth rate in the products and during the periods coinciding with the Spanish campaigns. Other countries that stand out are Brazil, with 55 million Euro (+22%) and Costa Rica, with 78 million Euro (+18%).

Imports from the EU amounted to 489 million Euro, with an 8% growth. Of note are France, with 187 million Euro (+13%), Italy, with 81 million Euro (+12%) and Portugal, with 62 million Euro (+15%). Meanwhile, the Netherlands, with 67 million Euro (-8%), has lost some ground.

By products, there has been a strong growth in the import of tomatoes, with 48 million Euro (+26%) and potatoes, with 159 million Euro (+18%). In fruits, there has also been a strong growth in a wide range of products: blueberries, raspberries, kiwis, mangoes, melons, watermelons, etc.
