Smaller Polish stonefruit season comes to an end
The smaller cherry harvest meant that prices were around four times higher this season compared to 2016, said market spokeswoman Małgorzata Skoczewska.
Domestic plums are available, but harvest losses of around 40% compared to 2016, have made the prices twice as expensive, costing 3 to 5 zł / kg. [1 PLN =0.23 EUR]
Peach and apricots volumes are down by one third compared to last season, with domestic peaches selling between 3 to 4 zł per kilogram and apricots from 3 to 8 zł per kilogram.
The raspberry supply and pricing is similar to last year and prices range from 10 to 15 zł per kilogram. A large supply of late strawberries are available varieties of late are at the same price, and the supplies are quite large. There is no shortage in currant sales.
Domestic vegetables have fared much better than the fruits. Covered production of eggplants, broad beans, green beans, tomatoes and dill are cheaper than last year. On the other hand, onions are more expensive, with prices from 0.70 zł to 1.10 zł / kg. Cauliflower prices are up 20% compared to last year, at 1.50 zł to 3 zł per piece.
