EU imports of vegetables from Morocco, Turkey and Egypt continue to grow, with increases of 17%, 51% and 20% in the first four months of 2017 compared with the same period of the previous year, according to the latest data updated by the Eurostat Statistical Office, processed by FEPEX.
Imports of vegetables from Morocco, up to April, were worth € 551.8 million, compared with € 470.6 million in the first four months of 2016. Turkey exported vegetables worth € 145 million, compared with € 95.7 million in 2016, and Egypt made shipments worth € 139 million, compared with the €116 million of the previous year.
These three countries accounted for 64% of the total volume of vegetables imported into the EU from third countries.
The rise of imports from these countries in the first four months of 2017 follows the trend of recent years, as in 2016 there was also growth compared to 2015. EU imports of vegetables from Morocco in 2016 were worth € 921 million, 8% more than in 2015; Turkey reached € 196 million, up 36% and Egypt made shipments worth € 190 million, up 13%.
