Nigerian ag minister praises Anambra on organic development

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural development, Chief Audu Ogbe has commended the Anambra state government for placing agriculture as a major key in its developmental pillars.

He said the state is the first in Nigeria to go into exportation of agricultural products including vegetables, yam and pineapple.

The minister spoke through the Regional Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, South East region, Dr. Nnamdi Ibezim, during the 2017 National Organic Agriculture Business Summit in Awka, Anambra state.

Ogbe said the state was able to achieve the feat by keying into organic agriculture and its emphasis on certification and quality control.

"Agriculture in Anambra is on the front burner of the governor's priority. The governor came from an agrarian environment and that has helped him to push agriculture forward." he added.

He defined organic agriculture as the sustenance of the health of the soil, crop and eco system, explaining that Nigeria, through it, can go back to the export trade to add value to her food production.
