"Peru: "Our mangoes shipped by air are the first to reach China"

Peru's mango production has increased in recent years and the volumes reached are so high that the country has been in need of opening new markets quickly. "We started exporting our products to Europe, then to the US and finally to China," explains Victor Ruesta, of Diamond Fruits. This Peruvian company has already been exporting mangoes to China for three seasons, "And we are always the first ones to start with the air shipments. We also want to gain a strong foothold in this country, so we have set up an office in China," he adds.

Last year, they marketed more than 150,000 boxes of air mangos to various destinations; however, "we have focused on settling down in China and then developing the Asian market, which, in addition to being demanding, can absorb large volumes of our products due to its great consumption capacity," affirms Ruesta.

The average price of air mangoes last season was 3 dollars per kilo (FOB price). "In this industry, it is difficult to maintain a stable price, because it depends on the supply and demand of the market," comments Ruesta. In fact, this product had price fluctuations from $ 3.5 to 2.4 per kilo (FOB price), depending on the time of the campaign. "We hope to get the same prices as last year," added the representative of Diamond Fruits.
