June 2017

During the month of June, the price paid to the Mexican lemon producers (Citrus Aurantifolia Swingle) in the producing regions of Michoacan, Colima, Oaxaca and Guerrero; the wholesale quotations in supply plants; consumer prices in selected cities of the country; and the margins of commercialization of the fruit of Colima origin in selected cities and wholesale centers were as follows:

Prices paid to producers ($/ kg)
In June 2017, the highest average price paid to Mexican lemon producers in the fields, gathering centers and packing houses of the biggest citrus producing states in the country was 5.13 $/kg, which was registered in The state of Colima. It was followed by 4.62 $/kg in Michoacan, 3.97 $/kg in Oaxaca, and the lowest price was 3.43 $/kg, which was recorded in the state of Guerrero.

According to data from the Mexican Lemon Product System (SIPROLIMEX), during the first half of 2017, the following behavior was observed in the citrus region of Colima: the fruit's price went from 8.50 $/kg in January to its highest level in March, $ 17.48 / kg, then hit its lowest price in May, 4.56 $ / Kg., and had a slight recovery in June, as producers were paid 5.13 $/kg.

Wholesale prices ($/kg)
According to data from the Market Integration Information System (SNIIM) of the Ministry of Economy, the highest wholesale price for the Mexican lemon caliber 5 of Colima origin in June was registered at the Union of Merchants of La Paz, BCS, 22.18 $/Kg. (SNIM), followed by the Supply Center INDIA of Tijuana, BC, with 17.28 $/kg, the STAR market of San Nicolás de Garza, NL, 14.57 $/kg, and again, inexplicably, Colima in the fourth position of the national Top 10, with a price of 14.00 $/Kg, despite the fact that the product being marketed by the Colima City Distribution Centers was caliber 2. The price in Colima remains well above the quotations handled by others Wholesale centers such as; the Center of Supply of the Lagoon of Torreón Coah., 13.85 $/Kg., The Francisco I. Madero of Hermosillo Supply Market, Son., 13.16 $/Kg., the Central Market of Francisco Villa of Durango, Dgo. 12.71 $/Kg., and the Guadalajara Supply Market, Jal., 10.00 $/Kg. How is it possible that the price of Colima's star product is higher in Colima than in other wholesale centers that are hundreds of kilometers away from where it is produced?

Retail prices for consumers ($/kg)
Within the selected cities, the highest average monthly retail price was found in supermarkets, retail chains and traditional stores operating in the city of Hermosillo, Son., 22.90 $/kg, and the lowest price was registered in the state of Colima, Col., 13.44 $/kg. (INEGI)
