Hail harms agricultural sector

4.5 Million Euro worth of damage in Austria

The storm last Wednesday afternoon caused severe damage to the agricultural sector in Kärnten, Burgenland and Steiermark. According to first estimates by experts of the hail insurance, 100.000 hectares of crops were damaged in those three states. "The damages for the sector are around 4.5 million Euro. Inquiries will begin as of now, so compensation can be granted to the affected farmers as quickly as possible," says Dr. Kurt Weinberger, chairman of the Austrian Hail Insurance.
