Cloud-based traceability program designed for the produce industry

Traceability programs play an important role in effectively tracking and tracing product up and down the supply chain. “In compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the Safe Food for Canadians Act, we’ve recently launched a cloud-based warehouse management system that supports the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI),” says Todd Baggett, CEO of RedLine Solutions. The system is designed just for the produce industry and helps to overcome productivity, inventory and shipping challenges.

Available for any size company
“Our first PTI system was introduced in 2013 for smaller companies, and though well received, we found that in more than 50 percent of the situations, RedLine Solutions spent a lot of support time cleaning viruses and malware off our customer’s PCs,” shared Baggett. “We wanted to develop a system that made it simpler for our customers, supported their requests for increased functionality, and had the ability to be easily scaleable for different sized companies.”

Cloud-based system
“That’s when we decided to go cloud-based. With a cloud-based system, the internet browser is the only thing that needs to work,” said Baggett. “Data can be securely accessed from anywhere, support and setup are much simpler, and moving to the cloud has allowed us to offer a subscription-based payment model, which is easily scaleable.” MyProduce.com supports the management of both bulk and finished goods, tracking all product movement from receipt, to packing, if required, and through shipment. With the use of optional mobile computers, the software will direct the forklift drivers to the most suitable product for each order, assuring optimum stock rotation and avoiding wastage. Every product picked can be validated against the order before shipping, so preventing errors and their associated costs.

MyProduce.com allows any size of produce company to operate more efficiently. A few features of the system include:
  • It tracks bulk produce and finished product being received, monitoring lot, farmer, date, purchase order number and other information.
  • It is simple to generate a bin label or pallet tag for the incoming product in compliance with your customer’s requirements.
  • Information can be either manually keyed into the system, e.g. room 1, row 5, or a mobile computer can be used to help automate and simplify the process.
  • The system registers the exact warehouse put away location, and any subsequent movements, for faster product location later.
  • The system also helps with packing product. For example, if a customer wants to pack product from the same grower and the same lot, the system can provide that information and will let the driver know exactly where that product is in the facility.
  • Sales staff have instant access to reliable, real-time inventory levels.
  • It supports streamlined processes, through automation and better visibility, and helps staff be more productive and accurate, saving time and avoiding wastage.
  • Items picked can be validated against the order automatically, avoiding shipping errors.
  • The system has one-click reports that support FSMA compliance, recall requests, and business insights.
“The system is designed to help any grower-shipper of fresh produce be more efficient and profitable,” shared Baggett. “Because it is web-based, it doesn’t require maintenance, so IT staff can focus on other things. It saves your staff a lot of time finding the right product and assures pick and shipment accuracy, saving time and money.” A monthly subscription is all that is needed to run the system and the hardware can be leased. “It pays for itself,” said Baggett. MyProduce.com was officially launched in the first quarter of 2017. See below an introduction video of the system.
