Poland: Launch of portal connecting growers with consumers

A new portal, MyZbieramy.pl, has been created to connect Polish fruit and vegetable growers with customers willing to get the products from them directly. It is a similar solution to initiatives that have already been in place for many years in countries like the US, Canada, the UK and Germany.

This concept is ideally suited to shortening the food chain and ensuring that products go straight from the field to the table. Food can be healthier, cheaper and of higher quality. This system also gives the customer a guarantee of the product's origin and allows them to observe the conditions under which they have been grown, while helping build good relationships between the consumer and the producer. The project perfectly fits into the modern slogan of "think globally - eat locally".

The portal will support local producers, since the payment for the harvest will take place immediately on the farm. Those collecting the products will have the chance to buy vegetables and fruits at much cheaper prices than in stores, because the grower will be able to offer a significantly lower price, but the producer will also benefit from the system, as those prices will be higher than the ones they would get in the wholesale market.

Growers interested in using the portal can register a free account and then place a free ad on MyZbieramy.pl. They must provide some essential information on the product, such as harvest dates, photos and the price which those collecting the fruits and vegetables will have to pay. The ad remains visible for 40 days and the grower can make changes at any time. In turn, customers can quickly find an offer near their home using the portal's search engine.
