"Fight for your right to fruit" project"
Interesting results emerged from the latest survey conducted in two schools on three groups for a total of 263 12/13-year-olds.
“The first group read manga comics promoting fruit consumption, the second read a newsletter on fruit and the third read a newsletter on Ancient Greece. Their knowledge on fruit was assessed immediately after their reading assignment. It emerged that the youths reading comics were better predisposed to eating fruit.”
They were offered a snack and had to choose between fruit (oranges, grapes, apples and strawberries) or an alternative (biscuits, crisps, crackers, etc.): over 60% of the comic group chose fruit against 30% of those who read the newsletter. In the US, over 40% of children do not eat enough fruit, therefore this study could be useful to promote better food choices.
