Italy: Chinese buyers visit Palermo

High-quality is the best way to conquer the Chinese market. Hong Kong buyers have shown their appreciation for many Sicilian products, meaning there are new growth opportunities for local companies.

A meeting was held in Palermo between 15 Chinese buyers from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and a pool of 50 Sicilian companies. Gianluca Mirante, Italia Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, was very pleased with the outcome.

"We took a delegation of 15 buyers to Sicily with the help of the Regione Sicilia Agricultural Office. We wanted to understand the dynamics of a market that is very different from Europe, the US or South America."

"We visited many companies and there was a lot of interest also for products like tomato sauces and dried tomatoes. I hope a good number of companies will be able to represent Sicily in Hong Kong, as Sicily is like a brand. We recommend going to China to export the idea of Sicily, its excellent products and its tradition," commented the Director.

"As a Region, we are trying to promote our local productions. A perfect example of this, is the fact that we completed the procedure to export our blood oranges," commented council member Antonello Cracolici.

"We are working hard so that our food productions and sauces can find an outlet in the People's Republic of China."

"This mission made it possible to promote various Sicilian businesses to Chinese buyers, who in turn were able to understand regional production dynamics," explain Regione Sicilia Marketing Director Pietro Miosi.

Dried tomato, cherry tomato sauces and other regional products were particularly appreciated.
