Mexico: Sinaloa ships its first mangoes to Europe

A company from Sinaloa based in the municipality of Escuinapa sent its first cargo to Europe, after state authorities promoted mangoes in countries such as Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Enrique Diaz, Diazteca's market coordinator, said that to conquer the European market they needed to improve their planning, effort, and commercial skills and that they were already working to achieve this.

It's still a project, it isn't consolidated, said the entrepreneur, "we are starting, we are going to see the challenges that we are going to face, among them to cover market expectations that are not easy."

He said that the European market was much more complex than the American market, "which we are used to. We need to dominate logistics that are also quite different from the ones we have performed before."

He also said that "many times we don't have the spaces we need or the times that customers require. What we see are many opportunities, but also great challenges that we have to overcome."

He said that in six months of management, with the endorsement of the state government, the Ministry of Agriculture had carried out three commercial missions in order to contact state producers directly with market representatives.

The state government reported that the first steps taken to diversify the market of Sinaloa products had began to produce results, after the state shipped its first load of mangoes to Europe on Wednesday, June 28.

The first commercial mission promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, which was held from May 7 to the 12 this year, consisted of promoting Sinaloa products in Europe, especially in Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, he said.

As a result, market representatives from these countries were particularly interested in mango as an exotic fruit.

Almost two months later, the State Agriculture Ministry said, the results of this mission yielded its first results, when the municipality of Escuinapa sent its first shipment of mango to these countries.

Despite being an initial market test, this is an opportunity to offer the state's products abroad, given their quality and sanitary management, they emphasized.
