Strawberry sales almost finished in Poland

The sale of strawberries, which hit the market later than in previous years, is slowly coming to an end in Poland. Małgorzata Skoczewska, spokeswoman of Bronisze market, said that strawberries can currently be bought for 5-8 złoty* per kg. Meanwhile, cherries are expensive due to the impact of frost and are sold for between 8 and 16 złoty per kg, depending on the variety. It is also possible to buy cherries imported from Hungary or Spain, but those cost 12-18 złoty per kg.

Bronisze also has a supply of imported watermelons and Polish raspberries grown under cover. The price for those early raspberries is high and reaches 15-18 złoty per kilo, which is twice as expensive as a year ago.

As for apricots and peaches, the spokeswoman affirms that, for now, the fruits on sale are imported from abroad. Apricots cost 6-8 złoty per kilogram, which is the same as last year. Nectarines and peaches cost around 3.75-5 złoty per kilogram.

The supply of domestic vegetables is good, but their prices are overall higher than a year ago. Some of the most expensive ones are cauliflowers and cabbage, which respectively cost 4-5.5 and 3-4 złoty per piece. However, potatoes and carrots are cheaper; Irga potatoes (in bags of 15 kg) are sold for 0.80-1.2 złoty per kilogram.

At the same price level as last week are young onions (2-2.75 złoty/kg), young beetroot, tomatoes under cover (2.50-3.50 złoty/kg) and raspberry tomatoes (2.5 4.2 złoty per kilo), as well as green beans, which cost 6.8 złoty.
