Ariel Alegria, of Vinefresh:

"If Peru continues to do things well, it can be very competitive"

"Peru exports large volumes to the United States, but this is the first container of oranges to be shipped in four years and it's very good that it's to us," said Vinefresh's Ariel Alegria proudly. This shipment is a test and if the results are positive they will try to send 5 or 10 more containers in the following season.

"They have the quality to export, but they need an interesting market with good prices, as the local market for this product is very good," said Ariel. That's why they have created an alliance with this country for several products, including oranges and other citrus fruits.

Wuhl Shafman Lieberman Corp., is one of the largest fresh fruit wholesalers in the Northeast Corridor and it has been present for over 100 years in the business and has extensive experience working mainly on the East Coast of the United States. Recently, the company began to import products from Peru, directly from the producers.

According to Ariel, the Peruvian season depends a lot on California, but June would be a very interesting commercial window to consider. "When California finishes its season, we have to compete with South Africa and Chile, which imports large volumes."

The company imports from several countries around the world, depending on the season. It has had its headquarters in South America in Chile for 13 years and is starting to do business in Peru with a commercial office already established. "The first step is to create strong and serious business relationships for import; we are looking for good quality and reliable people in delivery," Ariel said. The most important import products are; citrus, oranges, mandarins, pomegranates, clementines, grapes, and blueberries.
