Growers demand crop insurance scheme

Hailstorms cause significant losses to Kashmir's fruit crops

Kashmir fruit growers are urging the government to implement a crop insurance scheme after inclement weather along with hailstorms caused significant losses for growers in affected areas.

The fruit growers expressed concern over losses suffered by the Valley based fruit growers due to consistent heavy hailstorm.

“The maximum fruit crop has turned into B grade and C grade and the Valley based fruit growers are extremely anxious due to huge losses,” the statement said.

It adds that KVFGU have repeatedly requested the concerned agencies for the implementation of the crop insurance scheme. “Though the announcement of a crop insurance scheme was made by the government, it is unfortunate that the said scheme has not been implemented so far.”

“The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Dealers Union appeal to the government for immediate implementation of crop insurance scheme” it said.
