Price report for Egyptian produce

The changing dollar exchange rate and increasing import costs have had an impact on vegetable and fruit prices in Egypt. A kilo of potatoes now costs EGP£3.5, while a kilo of plums rose, now at EGP£14. The prices of a kilo of each variety of eggplant are as follows: romy eggplant EGP£5, bride eggplant EGP£6 and white eggplant EGP£6. A kilo of mulukhiya, more commonly known as mallow is priced at EGP£4, which is the same price as white and red onions.

The cost of a kilogram of tomatoes ranges from EGP£3 – 4, while a kilo of peas would fetch EGP£10, carrots would set you back EGP£4. Both Chinese garlic and municipal garlic is priced at EGP£15.

Price per kg of these various vegetables are as follows: okra is at EGP£16, alcaboutca is at EGP£3.5, courgettes at EGP£8 and beans at EGP£5. On the other hand 3 kilograms of lettuce goes for EGP£10, while the Capucci lettuce is priced at EGP£4 pero kilo. One kg of lemons is now priced at EGP£20. A kilo of peppers are priced at EGP£12 and chinese radish at EGP£3. Broccoli would go for EGP£10, while red cabbage is priced at EGP£4.5.

As for some of the fruits they are priced per kg as such: summer oranges EGP£6, Saidi bananas EGP£10 and Fiume apricot EGP£10. For apples, Golden apples EGP£16, US apples EGP£17 and Egyptian apples EGP£5.5 per kilo. 

Strawberries are EGP£8, while for Alcanthelob watermelon, EGP£4.5. Guava and lime are priced at EGP£15 and EGP£25 respectively. Peaches cost around EGP£4.5, while avocados will cost around EGP£40. Both Baladi mangoes and Yellow Abanatti grapes will fetch a price of EGP£12. Other grapes such as the Red Abanatti grapes goes for EGP£15, while grapefruit costs EGP£5.
