Besana Group to double nut production capacity at UK facility

The Besana Group has announced that they will put further investments into the UK in order to increase the production capacity of nuts in their plant in Ipswich, England. The Group’s UK site today produces and distributes around 4,000 MT per year which means over 16 million single packs for the British market alone.

After the extension operations, which are expected to take around 6 months, the company expects to double overall productivity to around 8,000 MT of products destined to the manufacturing industry, not only in the U.K. but also in Europe.

This has been deemed necessary by the Group’s Directors, not only to double the capacity but also to offer a greater range of packaging options. This range now includes: quadraseal, pillow pack, resealable doypack, net line, loose line and pots.

The company also announced the launch of programs to spread into Eastern markets:

"We are glad to announce that the Besana programmes for a modern agriculture in the NUT sector, to be realized in widespread areas in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, have now started. This activity run by Besana International involves walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pistachios and, to a limited extent, Pecan nuts," Besana International, based in U.K stated.

"An experimental pilot orchard of 25 ha is already present in Kazakhstan, where 19 different varieties, highly valuable and cold-resistant, have been collected in collaboration with the best plant nurseries in the various areas."

"Similar activities are in train in Croatia through Besana Croatia, in this case concentrated on hazelnuts, and the most valuable varieties, such as Tonda Gentile Trilobata, Tonda Giffoni and Tonda Romana. This activity is now widely extended also to Romania and Ukraine."
