UK: Supermarket worker finds exotic lizard hiding in Spanish veg shipment

A stunned Hamilton supermarket worker found an exotic lizard hiding in a shipment of Spanish vegetables.

The Scottish SPCA were alerted to the discovery after the stowaway was spotted under some cellophane wrap.

He was suffering from dehydration and lurking in a broccoli head after the trip over from Europe, but is now recovering well.

The adventurous Iberian wall lizard was found in a Hamilton supermarket, but the animal rescue charity don’t have permission to say which one.

He has been named Brock after being retrieved on Thursday, May 11.

Scottish SPCA chief inspector Fiona Henderson said: “The poor wee guy was dehydrated, but otherwise unharmed from his adventures.

“As he’s not a native reptile, Brock couldn’t be rehomed like our normal rescues. In this case, he’s gone to live in a multi-habitat vivarium at the Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue centre, with reptile expert Nick Martin."

“The vivarium is designed to mimic Brock’s habitat as closely as possible, and it seems he’s settled in perfectly well despite his broccoli ordeal.”
