The main difficulty in selling jackfruit is its size

This fruit weighs on average 20kg and is not as easy to sell as other tropical fruits because of its weight, stated Martin Francis, the manager at Francis Trading BV. This, in turn, increases its price. "It is being sold at 8 euro per kilo in local markets," Francis added. The fruit's price, however, has been stable in recent years. "Obviously, the price can fluctuate due to the fruit's quality, and the availability of the product depending on the moment of the season," Martin said.

At the moment, the main markets for this Dutch company are southern European and Scandinavian markets. "These two areas import 50% of our stock," Francis said, adding that these markets were increasingly more important for them as the fruit was becoming increasingly well known. They export the remainder of their stock to other smaller markets. Francis Trading B.V. sells some 5,000 pieces of jackfruit a year on average.
